ANIMATION WORK

Some noteworthy animation work done during my course

PRACTICE PROJECTS

During my first year, as I was learning about the history of animation and the 12 principles of animation, I was tasked with making a number of practice animations. These include a bouncing ball, a waving plant, a head turn and a walk cycle.

A SOFA FOR LIFE

During my first year, I was tasked with creating a short animation telling the story of my life using folly sound effects and a single object to focus on. I decided to focus on me and my family sitting on a sofa from the moment I was born to the present day. I also chose a child-like pencil and crayon style as I felt it would add more personal and sentimental value to the finished animation.

LIP SYNC PROJECT

During my second year, I was tasked with creating a 15-30 second lip sync animation using two or more characters and a piece of audio. I chose a snippet of audio from the 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film, but I decided that rather than making entirely new characters for the animation, it would make the most sense to create redesigns of some of the characters from the book, which included Willy Wonka, Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee.

PUPPET PROJECT

This is a type of animation that is outside my level of animation expertise but I am still extremely proud of what I ended up making. During my first year, I was tasked with making a short stop motion animation using a puppet inspired by a person in my life and a set built in collaboration with an interior design student. I decided to base my puppet on my late paternal grandfather and the story/set on his time in the Congo during the Siege of Jadotville.

AUDIO ANIMATION PROJECT

During my second year, I was tasked with creating a minute-long short animated film using sound and music based on a character. The short is titled 'Reminisce' and is about a man moving out from his childhood home and discovering a scrapbook that unlocks memories of his father, whom he feel grateful for. The art style is partially inspired by the Sofa for Life project from the first year, but brought to a slightly more complex and realised conclusion.

MISCELLANEOUS ANIMATION PROJECTS

Shown here are two miscellaneous animation projects from my first year, the first of which being a combination of 2D animation with real life footage and the second of which being a project made in Adobe After Effects inspired by classic arcade shoot-em-up games.
